Inter Aide facilitators and Health Surveillance Assistants (HSAs) at Katchale Health Centre have started implementing the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) approach. CLTS is a method for mobilising communities to eliminate open defecation. Communities conduct their own assessment of open defecation and take their own action to prevent it.
At the start of 2014 the Traditional Authorities of the area agreed to pass a by-law requiring all families to have latrines. CLTS is the first activity that has been implemented to make sure all families are compliant with this new by-law. House-by-house follow up will be used to confirm how many families have constructed latrines.
