Phalombe District (Southern Region)

Catchment Area

The Southern Region Child Health Program is currently implemented in the following areas within Phalombe district:

  • in the catchment area of Nambazo Health Centre, where community activities were implemented from August 2015 to July 2019, and where health system support activities only are now conducted
  • in the catchment area of Kalinde Health Centre, where community activities were implemented from August 2019 to December 2019, and where health system support activities only are now conducted
  • in the catchment area of Nazombe Health Centre, where the program started in October 2019
  • in the catchment area of Waruma Health Post and Nambiti Health Post, where the program started in January 2020

Both are rural, government-run Health Facilities in Phalombe district. Both facilities manage village clinics which provide services to remote communities.

We chose this area because it has:

  • Significant needs, particularly for child health.
  • High population density, allowing us to reach a large number of people with fewer resources.
  • Very few other NGOs running programs, and no other NGOs running child health programs.
  • A stable government and security situation, allowing for the implementation of a long term program.
